Travel is so important for refreshing your spirit. It’s amazing what even getting out of town for the day can do to change your perspective and give you a new lease on life.

I don’t know about you, but even though I know how important a change of scenery is for me, I sometimes get so involved with work that I need to have my head pulled away from the computer.

Last week was my birthday week, and an elf took me on a day trip on the train up to Sacramento to enjoy Old Town. The weather was gorgeous, and we saw so many beautiful wildflowers and blossoming orchards along the way that it totally thrilled my soul.

Lunch on the Delta King, a restored riverboat moored along the Sacramento River, was a nostalgic, peaceful, and delicious event. The Delta King not only boasts a fine restaurant, but it’s also a hotel. Spending part of the afternoon there made me think how I’d like to take a riverboat ride down the Mississippi some da and play Scarlett O’Hara.

Easy walking distance from the Delta King is very evocative California State Railroad Museum — a must-see even if you’re not a train enthusiast. j

And you can cap your day off with a visit to the Underground Tasting Room on 2nd Street. I have to say that my favorite delicious wine there was the Rendez-rouge from Rendez-vou Winery.
